Understanding a unique way of seeing the world.
At Launch Psychology, we offer autism assessments for people from 12 months through adulthood. If you or your child is having challenges with social communication, peer relationships, emotional regulation, or sensory sensitivities, an autism assessment can provide clarity and direction. If you are looking for answers for school supports, a formal diagnosis, or a deeper understanding of you or your child’s strengths and needs, we’re here to help.
When to Consider an Autism Assessment
You should consider an autism assessment if you/your child:
- Struggles with back-and-forth conversations or making and keeping friends
- Has strong interests or routines and becomes distressed with changes
- Shows differences in play, communication, or emotional expression
- Reacts strongly to sounds, textures, or sensory experiences
- Has difficulty reading social cues or understanding personal space
- Seems to thrive in predictable environments, but struggles with flexibility
Every person is different, and an assessment can help distinguish between autism and other factors such as anxiety, ADHD, cognitive or learning differences.
What’s Involved in the Assessment
We use gold-standard tools for autism assessment, including the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). Our Registered Psychologists work to provide a warm, comfortable experience. A full autism assessment includes:
- Intake interview
- Developmental history using the ADI-R
- Direct assessment using the ADOS-2
- Cognitive testing (if this has not previously been completed)
- Academic testing (if requested)
- Questionnaires completed by parents, teachers, and sometimes the child
- Assessment of social, emotional, and adaptive functioning
- Feedback session to review results and next steps
- Comprehensive written report with individualized recommendations
